Carlos Ahumada Jr. grabs USRA Nationals prelim at Lucas Oil Speedway
El Paso, Texas, native Carlos Ahumada Jr. returned to action at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) as his preliminary night on Thursday kicked off the 10th annual Summit USRA Fall Nationals.
With 43 USRA Modifieds on the grounds, Carlos’ second-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the sixth row for the opener. Climbing three positions in the 25-lapper aboard his Hacienda Motorsports No. 65X Modified, Ahumada Jr. steered to an eighth-place finish.
For Friday’s preliminary night, Ahumada Jr. raced into the A-Main with a third-place finish in his heat. Starting on the pole, Carlos held off a ferocious charge from Terry Phillips to secure his fourth win of the season and a $500 payday. After leading laps 1-18, Ahumada regained the lead from Phillips on the final lap and finished 0.322 seconds ahead at the line to secure the victory. Cole Anderson, Nic Bidinger, and Tyler Worley completed the Top-5 finishers.
Starting Saturday night’s $4,000-to-win USRA Nationals finale in sixth, Carlos surrendered three positions in the 50-lap affair to register a ninth-place finish.
