Ahumada Jr. notches runner-up result in USMTS opener at Hunt County

Carlos Ahumada Jr. kicked off the new season of Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competition in impressive fashion over the weekend at Hunt County Raceway in Greenville, Texas.

On Friday, Ahumada was among 49 Modified competitors at the quarter-mile track for the opening night of the ninth annual USMTS Texas Winter Nationals. He finished second in his heat race in his Hacienda Motorsports No.65x machine, positioning him fifth on the grid for the $5,000-to-win A-Main.

Ahumada took the lead on the 11th circuit and led a race-high 22 laps before relinquishing the top spot to Jason Hughes with eight to go. Ahumada settled for the runner-up position, taking the checkered flag 0.826 seconds behind Hughes. Tyler Davis completed the podium, with Jake Timm finishing fourth and Dan Ebert claiming fifth.

The next night, 50 USMTS Modified teams descended on Hunt County looking for another $5,000 payday. Ahumada finished second in his heat and won his B-Main on Saturday, slotting him into the 13th starting spot for the 50-lap feature. He was involved in the night’s first caution period on Lap 11 and recorded a 24th-place finish.

Ahumada currently holds the seventh position in the USMTS point standings.
