Ahumada Jr. competes in USMTS King of America XIII
Carlos Ahumuda Jr. and his Hacienda Motorsports team traveled to Humboldt Speedway on the first weekend in April to take part in the delayed King of America XIII program. The Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event had rained out on its originally scheduled date nearly four weeks prior.
Ahumada’s Hacienda Mechanical Inc. No. 65X Modified was part of a 53-car field at the quarter-mile track in Humboldt, Kansas, during each of the preliminary events on Thursday and Friday. Thursday evening’s program saw Ahumada finish seventh in his heat race and 12th in his B-Main, ending his night before the 33-lap, $3,000-to-win feature.
The El Paso, Texas, driver would bounce back on Friday. Although he finished fourth in his heat and seventh in his consolation race, he used an emergency provisional to start the $5,000-to-win A-Main from the 29th spot. He climbed an impressive 10 positions in the 40-lapper to register a 19th-place result.
With 51 USMTS Modifieds in the pit area for the Saturday finale, Ahumada came home fifth in both his heat and his B-Feature to take the 21st starting position in the $12,000-to-win main event. As rain began to fall, the race was canceled with just two of 60 laps complete. A makeup date will be announced soon.
