Carlos Ahumada Jr. competes in pair of USMTS main events at Amarillo Ambush

The 2024 Summit USMTS National Championship schedule rolled on Friday and Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. Lone Star State native Carlos Ahumada Jr. joined the series for the topless Amarillo Ambush at the 3/8-mile track and competed in both $5,000-to-win features.

Friday’s opener brought 51 USMTS Modifieds to Route 66 for the 11th annual event, including Ahumada’s Hacienda Motorsports No. 65x ride. The driver from El Paso finished fourth in his heat race, then used a fifth-place result in his B-Main to start 22nd in the 40-lap feature. Ahumada gave up one spot in the race and came home 23rd.

On Saturday, 50 USMTS teams were in Amarillo for another contest with the roofs removed. Ahumada drove to fifth in his heat and seventh in his consolation race, but used a provisional to qualify for the main event. He started 25th in the 50-lapper and mounted an impressive charge forward to finish 13th.
